East-West Seed Foundation, Inc. teamed up with the Department of Education (DepEd) Division Offices and Nestlé Philippines to establish 'Nutrigardens' in more schools.
In line with Gulayan sa Paaralan program of public schools, Nutrigardens project aims to build the capacity of the teachers, parents and garden coordinators in producing vegetables for consumption.
The project started in the last quarter of 2019. Three cities have been selected for the project specifically: Cebu City, Tanauan City and Meycauayan City, with 10 public schools each city.
Lecture and hands-on activities were done to equip the participants with proper methods and techniques in vegetable gardening.
Each area also had a 3-day Training of Trainers. 30 participants composed of teachers, parents and garden coordinators were trained by East-West Seed Foundation. The project will run for 4 months with continuous monitoring in the vegetable gardens and will also have a garden evaluation on the latter part.
