Community PLANTREE: SMNHS YES-O Outreach Program in cooperation with EWSF and FRGG

Updated: Apr 26

In a bid to foster environmental consciousness and action within the local community, the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) of San Miguel National High School embarked on a transformative initiative – the COMMUNITY PLANTREE project. Collaboration lies at the heart of this endeavor, with the East-West Seed Foundation and Farm-Ready GG Seedling Corporation joining hands with YES-O to make the Community PLANTREE initiative a reality as we celebrate World Earth Day 2024 on April 22. This synergy exemplifies the power of collective action in addressing environmental challenges and underscores the importance of partnerships in driving meaningful change.

As temperatures rise, and the effects of climate change become more pronounced, the importance of gardening and nurturing green spaces cannot be overstated. The vegetable seedlings provided through the Community PLANTREE initiative are not confined to school premises; rather, they will find their new homes in the backyards and gardens of the recipients. This decentralized approach ensures that the impact of the project extends beyond the school gates, reaching into the very fabric of the community.

This outreach program initiative led by SMNHS YES-O stands as a shining example of youth-led environmental action. By bringing together students, teachers, and local residents in a shared mission to plant vegetable seedlings and nurture green spaces, the project embodies the spirit of community, collaboration, and sustainability. As these seedlings take roots and grow, they serve as a living testament to the power of individuals and communities to create positive change in the environment, including ensuring food security for all.
